From the skill of the craftsman's hands to transform a simple metallic object into a delicate piece of jewelry, the artisanal technique of damascening is kept alive.
With the same love for detail and leisurely pace of the old masters in Damascus, from where it took its name; Today it is carved with a chisel in Toledo, which has become the world capital of this technique. Craft that took root in the Castilian-La Mancha province at the end of the 19th century, by the heirs of the Basque Eusebio Zuloaga. He re-discovered this technique, which had almost disappeared at the time, in an armor of Damascus origin and applied it to his creations, reintroducing it in Spain.
Gold and iron melt into one, when the craftsman, with the help of a punch gently hit by a small hammer, makes the drawing stick in the cracks. And it immortalizes it, subjecting the piece to the blueing process: submerged in a caustic solution and heated to very high temperatures, the steel turns dark and the precious metals maintain their shine.
In our continuous search for traditional handicrafts from our country, we have found this centuries-old technique, practically unique in the world, to create these damascened earrings.
